Good uses
- Feedback and support: a code on a receipt or product insert that opens an email to your support address with the order subject filled in.
- Sign-ups and RSVPs: "Email us to join the list", with the message written for them.
- Reporting problems: a code on a machine or in a building that opens an email with its location in the subject.
What's in the code
A standard mailto: link, the same kind a web page uses for an email link, with the
subject and message percent-encoded so spaces, line breaks and symbols survive:
mailto:hello@example.com?subject=Order%2042. The phone opens it in its default email
app.
Questions
Does it send the email automatically?
No. It only opens a draft. The person scanning sees it and decides whether to send it.
Can I add more than one recipient?
Separate addresses with commas in the address box. Most email apps accept that.
Is my message stored anywhere?
No. The code is made by your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us or saved.
